Gambia River Basin (OMVG) Electricity
The 1 677 km-long interconnection line crosses the four OMVG countries: Guinea, Senegal, Gambia and Guinea-Bissau. The interconnection will supply the four member countries with power generated by Sambangalou and Kaleta facilities and other power plants in the OMVG/ECOWAS zones.
The project includes civil works for the proposed road/rail bridge, two one-stop border facilities, access roads and ramps across the Zambezi River. It is expected to significantly relieve ferry services and increase trade between the two countries. Construction began in 2014 and is due to be completed in 2018.
